Backups are only real when restores are tested

Backup & Disaster Recovery

An untested backup is a hope, not a plan. Scalenta runs managed backup operations and recovery planning for your systems — and tests restores on a schedule, so you know what recovery actually looks like before you need it.

Overview

Backup problems are quiet. Jobs stop, schedules overlap, storage fills, someone disables a task — and nobody notices until the day the data is needed. By then it is too late to find out for the first time.

Scalenta treats backup as an operating discipline: coverage agreed against your data's real importance, jobs monitored, failures chased, restores tested and recovery steps documented. When something goes wrong, the process is familiar — because it has been rehearsed.

Scope

What this covers

  • Backup design

Coverage, schedules and retention matched to how important each data set actually is.

  • Managed backup operations

Job monitoring, failure triage and follow-through — a backup only counts when it completes.

  • Scheduled test restores

Real restores, on a schedule, with results recorded. That is the difference between a backup and a belief.

  • Recovery planning

Recovery objectives defined with you, documented runbooks, and rehearsal before you need them.

  • Disaster recovery options

Replication, standby infrastructure and failover designs through cloud or partner facilities, scaled to what the business genuinely needs.

  • Archival support

Long-term retention where compliance or contracts require data to be kept beyond normal backup windows.

Approach

How we work on this

  1. STEP 01

    Assess

What data exists, where it lives, what it is worth, and what losing it would cost.

  2. STEP 02

    Design

Backup coverage, retention and recovery objectives agreed and written down — with realistic trade-offs.

  3. STEP 03

    Operate & test

Jobs monitored continuously, restores tested on a schedule, and results reported to you — including the gaps.

What good looks like

Outcomes we aim for

  • Restore tests on a schedule — not a promise.
  • Coverage and retention mapped to data importance, not defaults.
  • Failures chased and reported, not just logged.
  • Recovery steps documented and rehearsed.

FAQ

Common questions

Can you guarantee a specific recovery time?
We agree recovery objectives with you and validate them through testing. What we will not do is publish a guaranteed number we have not proven for your environment — untested recovery claims are how businesses end up surprised.
Where are backups stored?
Wherever fits your requirements: your infrastructure, a partner facility or a cloud provider — including off-site copies where the risk profile calls for it. Locations and copy counts are agreed in the design.
We already have backups. What would you change?
Often less than you would think — usually the discipline. We review coverage and retention, fix the gaps, automate monitoring, and add test restores so the backups you have are ones you can rely on.
